Books and Bakes

Afternoon Tea

What is a Books and Bakes event?

A Books and Bakes event can be whatever you want it to be! It could take the form of a book club where everyone reads the same book and you come together to discuss it over cake. Or you could do a book swap by asking everyone to come along with their favourite book and ask them to explain why they'd love to share this story with other people. You could even invite family and friends to attend the event dressed as their favourite book character and serve up some bubbles! The possibilities are endless - you can make this event completely your own.

What support do we offer?

We can offer you a range of digital resources that you may want to use to promote your event, including:

  • Bunting
  • Poster template
  • A fundraising guide full of ideas and inspiration to help you make your event really special

You can find all these resources in our fundraising toolkit below.

We can also send you National Literacy Trust branded t-shirts to help you look the part at your event, so please do contact us to tell us if you're thinking of organising your own Books and Bakes event, as we'd love to know about what you're planning and to help in any way we can!

How should I collect the funds from my event?

After your Books and Bakes event, there are a number of ways to get the money to us. The easiest way is to set up a JustGiving page to collect donations as you go, but you can also make a donation via our website, or send a cheque, made payable to National Literacy Trust, to 68 South Lambeth Road, London, SW8 1RL.
