In the lead up to the latest in the Roy of the Rovers book series arriving, we've come together with publisher Rebellion publishing to launch a very special, limited edition Melchester Rovers football shirt, which features the National Literacy Trust logo!

In keeping with other great clubs who have featured charities as their ‘shirt sponsor' Melchester Rovers, the fictional football team from the book series will proudly sport the National Literacy Trust logo on the sleeve of its shirts.

Life-long fans of the stories and new, younger fans alike are able to pre-order the shirts from manufacturer Hope & Glory’s website , in a range of sizes for children and adults. The launch comes in celebration ahead of Sudden Death, the latest Tom Palmer book in the Roy of the Rovers series, being published in September, followed a month later by New Digs, the next comic in the series written by Rob Williams.

Fans are encouraged to purchase their football shirts over the summer in anticipation of the new book launch.

Roy of the Rovers fiction author and Ruth Rendell Award winner, Tom Palmer has worked with us for many years to bring the magic of author events to schools in person and in more recent times through digital events and live story writing.

He is a dedicated ambassador for getting children into reading and writing through their love of sport.

We're fierce supporters of the adventures of Roy Race and his sister Rocky and we're really proud to have the National Literacy Trust logo featured on these special Melchester Rovers shirts! Tom Palmer, Rob Williams and the exciting Roy and Rocky of the Rovers stories have all helped us to engage young readers, especially those who may be a bit reluctant to reading but love football!

Jim Sells, Sport and Literacy Programme Manager at the National Literacy Trust

The shirts will be available to pre-order until 31st August.
