Why campaign for literacy?

One in sixEven today, one in six people in the UK do not have the reading and literacy skills they need to fulfil their potential.

We believe that everyone is entitled the benefits associated with good literacy skills. Research shows that with good literacy skills, people are happier, healthier, more successful and more likely to contribute to society.

With your help we are campaigning for better literacy levels in the UK. We believe that everyone has certain reading rights, which include the right to communicate and to be understood; the right to learn, to understand and to empathise; the right to work, and to be independent; the right to comprehend and secure our rights as a citizen; the right to support and encourage our families; the right to be happy, healthy and secure; the right to participate, and contribute to society

Together we can make a real difference through literacy: it is possible for people to improve their skills and change their lives.
