Blue Peter Book Award
An adult judging panel decides on a shortlist, which is announced in October under three categories - the 'most fun with pictures', 'best book with facts' and 'the book I couldn't put down'. A panel of children aged seven to 12 then reads all the titles and decides on a winner in each category, as well as an overall winner; these are announced late in November as part of a special Blue Peter programme. The CILIP Carnegie and Kate Greenaway Children's Book Awards
Shortlists for the two awards are announced in April and the winners are announced in July. During this period, many children's reading groups in schools and libraries take part in a 'shadowing' scheme, reviewing the nominated books and talking about who they think should win.
