Learner support in libraries

The library service should be able to support adults learning and help them to move on.

In order to support them effectively library staff will need to:

  • identify or recognise learners and potential learners who use the library
  • be aware of what courses and learning opportunities are available in the area
  • depending upon their training, offer informal or more formal support to basic skills learners who want to use or learn in the library
  • provide facilities for classes and national tests in the library where appropriate
  • provide access to ICT and support for basic skills learners who want to use it
