Sure Start centres will be scaled back to cater for only the neediest families

20 May 2010

The Liberal Democrat and Conversative coalition government has set out its future policy objective in "The Coalition: our programme for government". Most notably is the coalition's stance on Sure Start, about which the paper states: "We will take Sure Start back to its original purpose of early intervention, increase its focus on the neediest families, and better involve organisations with a track record of supporting families."

The government also stated it will investigate ways to, at least in part, pay providers based upon the results they achieve.
