Wellbeing

30 Jun 2010

The concept of wellbeing is not a new one but the term has come back into the language and dialogue of the early years sector. Wellbeing denotes an overall state of health; mental, phsyical and emotional. It is also, notably, not a negative state. A child's wellbeing is not founded on a lack of "bad things" happening but a positive proactive environment which allows a child to feel happy and secure in all aspects of development. Communication, attachment and infant mental health are all important to an overall state of wellbeing and they are all also important in providing a child with the language and communication skills which lay the foundations for literacy.

These pages will be expanded in due course.

A wellbeing conference is being planned for 5 March 2011 by London Metropolitan University and the National Children's Bureau. We will provide more details when they become available.
