Leading children’s and adults’ authors are exclusively offering the chance to become a character in a future book for the National Literacy Trust’s On The Shelf auction, which is now open for bids.

A number of leading children’s and adults’ authors are taking part in the auction, including:

  • Chocolat author Joanne Harris

  • Man Booker Prize shortlisted author David Mitchell
  • Award-winning children’s writer Michael Morpurgo
  • Tom Gates creator Liz Pichon
  • Horrid Henry creator Francesca Simon
  • Literary powerhouse Barbara Taylor Bradford
  • Bestselling novelist Joanna Trollope

booksNational Literacy Trust research shows that a third of disadvantaged children leave primary school unable to read well enough to succeed in secondary school, severely reducing their chance of leading a happy and successful life. Proceeds raised through the auction will fund the charity’s work to give the children living in these deprived communities the literacy skills they need to succeed in life.
