Why support us?

For one in six people in the UK today, literacy is a real struggle. They do not have the communication skills they need to fulfil their potential. Poor literacy means children do not gain the knowledge they need to succeed at school and as adults will have limited opportunities.

The work of the National Literacy Trust depends on financial support from many sources. Whether you are an individual, business, or charitable trust, you can help us transform lives through literacy.

Transforming lives through literacy

The National Literacy Trust is an independent charity. We believe everyone should have the literacy skills they need to lead a successful and happy life.

With your help we can:

  • Provide disadvantaged children with free books, opening up a new world of reading
  • Help parents to support their children’s literacy and language skills
  • Work with disadvantaged teenagers improving their communication skills in preparation for working life
  • Support families and adults with community-based projects that develop reading and writing skills
