Research by the Prince's Trust into young people's aims and the obstacles facing them
The Prince's Trust is a UK charity that provides practical
support to help young people realise their potential, focusing
in particular on those who've struggled at school, been in
care, in trouble with the law, or are long-term unemployed.
The Prince's Trust provides grants for individuals and groups
and other projects. These include:
The xl programme runs clubs within schools for those in their
last two years of school who are struggling and need help.
They meet once a week for three hours, identify what they
want to do - supported by an adviser if needed - and get involved
in fun projects outside school. They can also work towards
an award, accredited by ASDAN. There are over 700 clubs in
about 450 schools around the UK.
Based in over 300 locations across the country, Team is a
free 12-week volunteering programme of personal development
and training in which young people aged 16-25 work as a team
on a programme delivered by local partner organisations including
the Fire Service and further education colleges, under guidance
of a trained Team leader. Educational underachievers including
those with low basic skills, those truanting and those excluded
from care, are key targets for the programme. Team is also
suitable for young people on New Deal.
