Book resources

Advice about selecting and ordering appropriate books for the children you work with is provided in your RIF handbook and CDRom, and at your initial training session. Basic guidelines can be found below.

If you were not able to participate in a training session, or have taken over a RIF project from a colleague, please contact the RIF team for advice.

Selecting books The RIF team is happy to help you select the best books for the children in your project to choose from. Visit the FAQs section for basic advice about selecting books or contact your project manager with more specific questions.

Booklists RIF has compiled a recommended booklist, organised by age range, that you may wish to browse for inspiration. Download RIF's recommended booklist for ages 0 - 13+ (PDF). Book resources for children Children may enjoy browsing book review websites such as Achuka www.achuka.co.uk, Cool Reads www.cool-reads.co.uk or the Reading Zone www.readingzone.com to make their choices. Visit the Rifsters section of the website for 0-19 year-olds: the children in your project could win one of our fantastic book prizes by entering a competition or sending us a book review. Make sure they include your RIF code on their entry.

Publishers' websites and catalogues You can also visit children’s publishers’ websites for ideas, to order catalogues to help you decide which books to order or for free downloadable resources for events. Click here for links to over 50 children's publishers’ websites.

Ordering books from BBfS All book orders for RIF projects must be placed through RIF's online book supplier, Browns Books for Students (BBfS). You will need to enter the username and password provided at the start of your project to access your account. If you don't know your log in details for BBfS please contact your project manager.
