Stories and activities: Pirate Reading Adventure
Use the resources below to run five sessions in which you and the children share a story together and complete a fun activity relating to the story.
Each story is colourful and beautifully illustrated so works really well when projected onto an interactive whiteboard for reading together as a group.
Once the children have read the story and completed the related activity they can mark it off on their special achievement chart.
Session 1: Posh Pirate Party
Meet Swashbuckle characters Captain Sinker, Cook and Line as they attempt to get ready for the Buccaneer's Ball. After hearing the story children can make their own pirate outfit including a hat, eye patch, moustache and beard.
Session 2: Plankety Plank
Captain SInker asks Cook and Line to find a plank for Gem to walk but as usual her plan backfires. Children can then create their own puppets of the characters and make them walk the plank into the slop box!
Session 3: Tooth Fairy Treasure
More mischief ensues when Captain Sinker, Line and Cook try to trick the Tooth Fairy out of her gold coins. After hearing the story children can create their own treasure hunt.
Session 4: Teddy Bear's Picnic
The Swashbuckle characters run into more trouble as they prepare for a teddy bears' picnic. Children can then design their own teddy bear and pirate flag.
Session 5: Raspberry Fools
Cook and Line go head to head in a cooking challenge which has disastrous results for Captain Sinker. After hearing the story children can prepare for their own party by making place names and straw toppers.
A certificate of achievement is available for each child who completes all five stories and activities.
