Campaign focuses on school libraries

A new campaign to promote school libraries aims to stop closures and to save qualified librarians from losing their jobs. The campaign will be closely involved with the promotion of school library services, a distinct facility that supports school libraries and provides book loans and guidance for teaching the curriculum. The ‘ShoutAbout’ campaign is backed by the CILIP (Chartered Institute of Library and Information Professionals) and ASCEL (Association of Senior Children’s and Educational Librarians) and the School Library Association.
The campaign follows the School Library Commission led by the National Literacy Trust and the Museums, Libraries and Archives Council in 2010. The commission found that libraries had the potential to have a dramatic impact on pupils but were a neglected resource in many schools. Find out more about the commission and read the final report.
