Information for parents

Premier League Reading Stars is a partnership between the National Literacy Trust and the Premier League.

The online challenge is open to all children, who can take part and win online rewards including access to exclusive footage of footballers talking about their favourite reads and downloadable certificates.

Your child could be taking part in our Premier League Reading Stars programme through their school, in which case their teacher may ask them to complete online challenges at home to follow up classwork. Participating schools will also be able to provide children with a unique school number. Each time this is used by someone completing a challenge, they will be entered into a prize draw to win additional Premier League prizes.

For further infomation about how you can support your child's communication skills - including reading, writing, speaking and listening - visit our site for parents and families - www.wordsforlife.org.uk.

Completing online challenges

To complete our online challenges, go to www.premierleaguereadingstars.org.uk. Children need to watch a short film clip (on the Premier League website) in which a top footballer reads an extract from a favourite book, news article or website, and then answer multiple choice questions about the content. Each footballer has set five separate challenges based on different extracts, and each challenge has three questions. In order to answer the final question of each challenge, children need to take up the challenge and read the full book or news articles, as the answer cannot be found in the extract.

When they complete a challenge, children will be asked to enter a first name and the first letter of their last name. No further personal information or contact details will be required at any point to access challenges or rewards. To contact winners in our prize draw, where a school number is used, we will notify their teacher, using your child's first name and first letter of their surname to identify them as the winner.
