Practical idea - Book awards (national and local)

National, and in some areas local, book awards are a great way to generate interest around books and reading. Encourage as many pupils and staff to take part as possible. Reward the pupils that have read and voted for the books with a certificate in assembly, or hold a series of reading events based on the short-listed books to encourage more pupils to take part.
