Practical ideas
Practical idea - The graphic novel and comic factor
18 Feb 2011
National Literacy Trust research (2008) showed that graphic novels and comics are popular types of reading materials, particularly amongst boys. Run a reading club where you read and discuss different graphic novels or comics each week/ fortnight. You could enlist the help of the art department to enable pupils to design their own storyboards for a comic as well.
Read a case study of one school's extremely successful "Manga Mondays" graphic novel club.
Get your pupils to design their own graphic novels using Comic Master (free online software).
