Practical idea - Using computer games as a hook

16 Feb 2011

Use your pupils favourite computer games as a hook to get them interested in reading activities. You could do this by looking at why you have to be able to read to understand gaming instructions, or a list of all the ways in which reading is used as part of computer games. Your pupils could then make a poster of this, or it could be used simply as an activity to make them realise reading is relevant to their lives.

This idea works well with reluctant readers, and boys in particular.
