Practical idea - Linking with other settings

16 Feb 2011

The ideas below will help you to develop positive and useful links with local schools and settings.

  • Contact your local primary school(s) and talk to the early years lead teacher.Find out about their early years provision and how literacy is taught.
  • Work with early years teachers at your local primary school(s) to set up two-way information sharing in order to improve provision in both settings. For example, your practitioners could visit the teachers at the school and vice versa.
  • Apart from the local primary school, identify other early years settings which your setting feeds into or which feed into your setting. Contact these settings and try to develop a relationship with them which enables both parties to share their practice.
  • If practically possible, organise some joint training for practitioners from both settings. This may make it more affordable especially if you work in a small setting.
