Practical idea - Trips and visits
22 Feb 2010
Reading doesn’t always have to be about sitting down with a book. Take the children that you work with into the local community and use these trips as inspiration for language and literacy activities.
Keep it simple by walking to a nearby park, train station or local place of worship. Places such as supermarkets, sorting offices and police/fire stations sometimes offer free visits to settings. Other great attractions include museums, historical sites, places of natural beauty and farms.
Many settings ask parents and careres to accompany trips like this to supervise their child - events like this are also a good way to increase familyl involvement too.
