Literacy in the Big Society

The election of a new Government in 2010 ushered in a new concept of public policy making and the beginning of a significant remodelling of public services. Central to this remodelling is the concept of the Big Society.

The National Literacy Trust has undertaken an evidence-based evaluation of what the Big Society means for literacy.

Supporting communities and local areas

We work with local areas to help them target literacy support to families and those with the greatest need, developing the capacity of communities and improving early language and literacy levels through a community-wide strategy.
