The National Literacy Trust analyses and supports the development of government policy, by attending expert advisory group meetings and responding to consultations. We also produce monthly policy statements for professionals and practitioners on issues affecting literacy policy.

  Following the release of the schools white paper, Labour MP Frank Field released the final report of his independent review on poverty and life chances.

  On 8 October the National Literacy Trust ran a policy breakfast event in Starbucks South Molton Street Store. Led by Jean Gross, the Government's Communication Champion, the event focused on the impact of the spending review on the early years sector.

  Following the general election on May 6 the UK has a change of government. With no party winning an overall majority the Conservatives and Liberal Democrats have formed a coalition government, with David Cameron as Prime Minister and Nick Clegg as deputy.
