Tony Bradman

Tony BradmanTony Bradman is an award-winning author who has been involved in children’s books for 35 years. He has written for all ages - poetry, picture books, young fiction, novels - and for many reading schemes. Tony has edited many anthologies of poetry and short stories, has been a judge on several major book prizes, and is a regular reviewer of children’s and young adult fiction for The Guardian books pages. Tony has three children, three grandchildren, and lives in London with his wife and Betty the Border Terrier - which makes him the third most important person in the house.

"Poetry for children is important because children love words and language - and poetry is words and language at their best."

Sarah Crossan

Sarah Crossan is originally from Dublin. She graduated with a degree in philosophy and literature before training as an English and drama teacher at Cambridge University and has been working to promote creative writing in schools since. She taught English at a small private school near New York until she became a full time writer. She completed her Masters in creative writing at the University of Warwick in 2003 and in 2010 received an Edward Albee Fellowship for writing.

"Poetry is the first language we speak. When we are born, we own it and we love it but somehow, along the way, children turn away from this, the most primitive of languages. It's everyone's job to make sure children feel that poetry belongs to them - which it does. "

Hannah Rolls

Bloomsbury Commissioning Editor

“After the success of the New Children’s Author Prize, we're thrilled to be working with the National Literacy Trust again. Poetry is a fantastic way to get kids excited about reading and we are really looking forward to seeing what all the poets out there come up with!
