Information for parents

Premier League Reading Stars is a partnership between the National Literacy Trust and the Premier League.

The online challenge is open to all children, who can take part and win online rewards including access to exclusive footage of footballers and downloadable posters and certificates.

Parents and children do not need to register or log in with our site to use the challenges.

Your child could be taking part in our Premier League Reading Stars programme through their school, in which case their teacher may ask them to complete online challenges at home to follow up classwork. Participating schools will also be able to provide children with a unique school number. Each time this is used by someone completing a challenge, they will be entered into a prize draw to win additional Premier League prizes. We will distribute these prizes through our teacher contacts.

Children whose school is not taking part in the full programme can still use the challenges, and win online rewards. They do not need to provide a school number for the prize draw.

For further infomation about how you can support your child's communication skills - including reading, writing, speaking and listening - visit our site for parents and families - www.wordsforlife.org.uk.

Completing online challenges

Children need to watch a short film clip in which a top footballer reads an extract from a favourite book, news article or website, and then answer multiple choice questions about the content. Each footballer has set three separate challenges based on different extracts, and each challenge has three questions. In order to answer the final question of each challenge, children need to read the full book chapter or news article, as the answer cannot be found in the extract.

When they complete a challenge, children will be asked to enter their name. No further personal information or contact details will be required at any point to access challenges or rewards. To contact winners in our prize draw, where a school number is used, we will notify the teacher of the winning pupil's name.
