About the programme

classroomOxfordshire Gaining Momentum (OGM) helps teachers support secondary school students who have trouble with literacy.

Research shows that disadvantaged students with poor vocabulary and grammar will struggle across all of their school subjects. Our OGM programme provides training to Oxfordshire teachers so that they can support the students who need it most.

Working closely with subject teachers and Literacy Leaders, the OGM programme provides training and personalised support to develop explicit reading and writing strategies designed to enhance attainment and engagement in every area of the curriculum.

Participating schools receive:

  • A whole school audit conducted by external experts to fully assess strengths and weakness of current literacy provisions
  • Three days of CPD training for Literacy Leaders, focusing on strategic approaches to improve reading, writing and oracy across the curriculum
  • Three days of CPD training for three subject leaders, focusing on practical methods to effectively teach literacy within their department
  • In-school consultancy with a literacy expert to embed the CPD training and develop a bespoke 'literacy across the curriculum' action plan
  • An exclusive competition to directly engage students with writing and a chance to win hundreds of pounds worth of books
  • A festival in partnership with Oxford Brookes University. Performers include programme ambassador Frances Hardinge
