This study of 1,136 mothers from the Avon Longitudinal Study of Parents and Children, investigated how mother and child characteristics and contextual sources of stress and support predict mother-child interactions observed at one and five years.

Children with a large vocabulary are known to perform better at school. This study of 50 young families with 14-month-old children from different socio-economic backgrounds suggested that early gesture plays a direct or indirect role in word learning.
