Young Bond author launches boys' reading report
12 Jul 2012
Young Bond author Charlie Higson joined teenage boys, Gavin Barwell MP, the Chair of the All-Party Parliamentary Literacy Group, and our Director at a Westminster event to launch the final report of the Boys' Reading Commission last night. The Schools Minister Nick Gibb was also in attendance and praised the Commission's report.
He said:
Boys’ underachievement and lack of engagement in reading is an important issue that needs to be addressed in schools.
The teenage boys attending the event took part in a panel discussion where they talked of the impact of peer pressure on boys' attitudes to reading and girls being more likely to receive books as presents. The Boys' Reading Commission is a joint initiative by the All-Party Parliamentary Literacy Group and the National Literacy Trust.
