Department for Education releases evaluation of Every Child a Reader and Every Child a Writer
13 Jun 2011
The Department for Education has released three research reports evaluating the impact of the Every Child a Reader (ECaR) and Every Child a Writer (ECaW) programmes.Developed in partnership by the Government, Institute of Education and the KPMG Charitable Trust in 2005, ECaR is a literacy intervention designed to ensure that every child (other than a small minority) achieves age-related expected reading levels by the end of Key Stage 1. ECaW aims to ensure faster progress in writing at the beginning of Key Stage 2.
The reports found that:
- Overall, ECaR had a positive impact on school level reading and writing attainment
- In ECaW schools staff perceived that the programme had had a positive impact on the attainment and confidence, at least, of pupils receiving one-to-one tuition.
