Axel Scheffler drawing raises £1250 for the National Literacy Trust
4 May 2011
Axel Scheffler raised £1250 for the National Literacy Trust by auctioning one of his drawings at this year’s London Book Fair in April.
Axel Scheffler was an Author of the Day on the closing day of the Book Fair, an initiative which sees the authors spending one day at the Fair to showcase their work. He was commissioned to do a drawing, which was then auctioned. Axel chose to give all of the proceeds raised to the National Literacy Trust.
Axel Scheffler is a book illustrator best known for his pictures for the best-selling children’s book The Gruffalo. Written by Julia Donaldson, The Gruffalo has sold over 4 million copies worldwide, has been translated in to over 30 languages and has won numerous awards. Axel has been a long-standing supporter of the National Literacy Trust, taking part in the 2009 Pushing the Envelope campaign and designing exclusive Gruffalo Christmas cards for our Gift of Reading campaign.
