Television as good as books for toddlers, according to Desmond Morris

2 Oct 2010

Desmond Morris, author of The Naked Ape, is claiming in his new book Child, that “if parents favour book-reading over watching a film, they’re making a mistake … it’s unjustifiable cultural snobbery.”

Morris insists that feature films require young children’s brains to exercise through making them name, classify, learn and understand the cast of characters. This, claims Morris, means that concentration and cognitive skills can be enhanced by watching feature films.

In Child, Morris goes on to claim that children should not be forced to share at a young age as it may make them more selfish and that nursery schools are more natural environments for children than staying at home with parents.
