20 Sep 2010
The National Literacy Trust in association with Starbucks will be hosting a lively panel debate event this evening (21 September) over some complimentary coffee and pastries at the Liberal Democrat Party Conference.
The “Rising to the Literacy Challenge: Building a bright future for Britain” event will bring together high-profile thought leaders from Government, the third sector, think tanks and the media for an opportunity to discuss the future of literacy in the next Parliament with an audience of educationalists, political minds and members of the public.
George Dugdale, Policy Adviser at the National Literacy Trust says; “With the new Coalition Government the literacy landscape is set to undergo enormous change. At these events we will debate how these changes could enable us to address the literacy challenge.”
The Liberal Democrat debate panel includes:
Spencer Neal, New Statesman (Chair)
Lord Tope, Vice-Chair of All Party Parliamentary Group on Literacy and Libraries
Judy Friedberg, Education Journalist
Dr Jane Davis, The Reader Organisation
Jonathan Douglas, Director, National Literacy Trust
Starbucks have kindly agreed to host the event at one of their stores near the conference as a sign of their commitment to improving literacy.
