Head of Metropolitan Police says high quality childcare is 'equally important' as police work in fighting crime
17 Aug 2010
In an interview with ITV on 17 August 2010, Sir Paul Stevenson, Head of the Metropolitan Police, said that high quality childcare is “equally important” in the fight against crime as police work. He went on to say that tackling the root cause of crime through long-term initiatives, like Sure Start, is needed. He continued, “We need long-term activity, using the facilities that are already in place, making sure that things such as Sure Start are there and available to the right families to give them support when they need that support.”
His comments come in the wake of Prime Minister David Cameron reiterating his goal of taking Sure Start back to its “original purpose of catering to the neediest families”.
