Operation Read competition winners enjoy an action-packed day out with Chris Ryan
22 Jun 2010
On Monday 21 June the lucky winners of the Chris Ryan Operation Read competition that was delivered to schools through our Reading Champions scheme, got muddy at an Action Day Out in Henfold Lakes in Dorking. The nationwide competition launched last November and hundreds of schools took part, with over 2,5000 schoolchildren from across the country completing reading missions set by Chris Ryan.
The competition challenged pupils to form teams of between three to eight members and to undertake a number of specially-selected missions to promote reading in school. Missions include “creating a reading wall” and finding out what other pupils at school enjoy reading.
Chris was there on the day, directing teams on their final missions, including wading through muddy swamps and tug-of-war!
SAS hero Chris Ryan has, since leaving the Regiment, written fourteen bestselling books for adults, most famously The One That Got Away. Chris is also the author of the highly successful Code Red series for younger readers. The latest in the series, Battleground is set in Afghanistan.
