The Orange Prize for Fiction Youth Panel, made up from members of Puffin’s online book community Spinebreakers, have narrowed their shortlist to six. The Youth Panel have been given the task of choosing an overall winner from the last 14 years of the prize and have selected: A Spell of Winter by Helen Dunmore; Fugitive Pieces by Anne Michaels; When I Lived in Modern Times by Linda Grant; Small Island by Andrea Levy; On Beauty by Zadie Smith and Half of a Yellow Sun by Chimamanda Ngozie Adichie. In 2005, at the prize’s 10th anniversary, Andrea Levy’s Small Island was selected as the ‘best of the best’ by the Adult Panel. Member of the Youth Panel, Hazel Compton says:
I’m excited to take part in this year’s Orange Prize 15th anniversary celebrations. It’s an incredible list of books and it’s going to be tough deciding on the winner but I’m looking forward to the challenge.”
The winner will be announced at the awards ceremony on 9 June, alongside the Orange Prize for Fiction winner.
