A time for all centres to blow their own trumpet
3 Sep 2009
In the coming months, the DCSF will support the effort of the early years sector by building national awareness of Sure Start Children's Centres. This is particularly important at a time when children's centres are set to be given a statutory legal basis and will be established as part of the universal services available for children aged birth to five years old and their families.
Sure Start Children's Centres go under many names, so in order for the campaign to work there must be a connection between the buildings that mothers, fathers and carers see each day, and the invaluable services that are on offer inside. The DCSF will provide each centre with Sure Start Children's Centre signs. The signs will be displayed beside existing local signage at the entrance of the children's centre. This way, families will understand that their centre is the same as they have seen in the local media through the campaign. The signs will also demonstrate that the local authority is meeting its forthcoming statutory duty to provide Sure Start Children's Centres.
