3,000 children's centres now open

8 May 2009

The latest DCSF figures also show that the programme is on course to open a further 500 centres up and down the country. Prime Minister Gordon Brown said: "Sure Start children's centres provide a vital service for families up and down the country. I know from the many I have visited the real and lasting impact they can have on families by providing them with services that can transform children's lives."

Children's Centres are set to receive a further boost through the Apprenticeships, Skills, Children and Learners Bill that is currently progressing through Parliament. This means the centres will be legally recognised as part of the universal provision of children's services for the first time.
