Our annual gala dinner raises vital funds for literacy
3 Mar 2017
On Wednesday 1 March, we held our fifth annual gala dinner, kindly supported by Pearson.
Supporters of the National Literacy Trust, including 11 guest authors and corporate partners, came together to celebrate our work and raise vital money for literacy.
Hosted by writer, actor and comedian Miles Jupp, guests had the chance to bid in both silent and live auctions and enjoyed a performance from the Young People’s Laureate for London, Caleb Femi. Read the poem Caleb gave on the night, which was written about his experiences on the Young City Poets programme.
Exclusive prizes up for auction included a unique sketch of the Gruffalo, which was drawn live by creator Axel Scheffler as guests placed their bids.
The dinner and auction raised over £85,000 for our work to give disadvantaged children the literacy skills they need to succeed. A huge thanks to Pearson, Miles Jupp, all of our guest authors and everyone who donated and bid on prizes.
