We need your thoughts on boys' reading
2 May 2012
As part of the All Party Parliamentary Group on Literacy we are undertaking a commission into boys’ reading. We launched with our first meeting in the House of Commons in late April and are now looking for evidence from practitioners. We want to hear from any schools that have overcome or narrowed a gender gap, as a result of an intervention, initiative or programme; as well as anyone who works closely with families or children and young people.
We would like to hear from you about any of the following:
- What works in your school? What initiatives or programmes have helped reduce a gender gap in your school?
- If you have asked your boys about their reading habits or attitudes to reading, what have their responses been?
- What are your thoughts on why boys fall behind?
- Your experience of boys’ reading within the home environment.
- The influence culture has on boys’ attitudes and reading habits.
- Are there any family dynamics that are particularly supportive or a barrier to boys’ reading?
Please email your feedback to boys@literacytrust.org.uk by the morning of 14 May.
