Most disadvantaged parents find early years groups intimidating

A report by the University of Bristol has found that the parents who are in need the most are being held back from accessing early years services because they fear being judged or left isolated.
The study found that first time visits to early years groups could be so daunting that some mothers never returned. Nearly a quarter of parents were put off by their first visits to groups either because they didn't know anyone there, found it "cliquey" or felt they were not in the "right social class". The mothers were ten times more likely to go to a group more than once if told about it by a friend or relative, rather than if they just saw a poster or a leaflet.
