Parents prefer traditional books for their children
22 Nov 2011
Parents who read e-books say that they want their children to be surrounded by print books and to experience turning physical pages.
Sales of e-book titles aimed at children younger than eight have hardly sold in comparision to the sales of e-book titles for adults. They represent less than 5% of total annual sales of children's books compared with more than 25% in some categories of adult books.
The National Literacy Trust has found that in the last seven years the number of children who say they do not own a book has increased from 1 in 10 to 1 in 3. This is of particular concern as research has found that attainment is directly linked to the number of books in the home. Our Christmas Gift of Reading fundraising campaign aims to address this by asking book lovers to make a donation to the National Literacy Trust which could give a disadvantaged child a book of their own for the first time.
