All Party Parliamentary Group on Literacy launched at House of Commons

4 Nov 2011

02 Douglas Wicked BarwellWith economic turmoil dominating the headlines, issues like literacy could well be overlooked by Westminster despite being so crucial to our long-term success. This is why we were delighted to launch the new All Party Parliamentary Group on Literacy at the House of Commons this month with MPs and Lords including Graham Allen, Zac Goldsmith and Lord Jim Knight.

Politicians were joined by the cast of musical WICKED who are supporting literacy through their involvement Wicked Young Writers' Award and How to Train Your Dragon author Cressida Cowell. MPs were presented with copies of the Dragon books for schools in their constituencies.

The special interest group will look at effective literacy policy and practice and aims to highlight the urgency of the literacy challenge.
