FILMCLUB launches Global Literacy film season

6 Sep 2011

In support of UNESCO’s 45th International Literacy Day on 8 September, the education charity FILMCLUB has launched a season of international films. The specially selected titles highlight the importance of literacy in people’s lives and the disparity of literacy levels across the globe. 250,000 children will be encouraged to watch, discuss and review films ranging from Akeelah & The Bee, about an impoverished girl’s exceptional talent for spelling, to Eleanor’s Secret, The Class and Oscar-winning drama The Lives of Others. FILMCLUB’s Global Literacy season aims to raise awareness of literacy issues while helping members develop their own skills by writing reviews for the website.

FILMCLUB is hosting free start-up sessions to join the scheme. See www.filmclub.org/register for more details.
