Kick off the new term with our football resources
15 Aug 2011
The English football season opened this week. If you think your pupils will start the new term more interested in football than reading, find out more about our Premier League Reading Stars project. Your primary school or library could take part free of charge, if you meet our criteria.
“Without our involvement with Premier League Reading Stars I honestly believe that we would have continually struggled to engage the children in reading.”
Sarah Poole, Subject Leader of English, Cornfield School, Sussex
The Premier League Reading Stars Resource Pack includes a “Tactics Book” for teachers (10 literacy sessions which support the National Curriculum); access to online videos of high-profile players to inspire pupils; and branded football resources including reading journals, reward medals and certificates.
It is ideal for supporting boys’ literacy in and outside the classroom, targeting reluctant readers, combating negative peer pressure and increasing school library use. 96% of children who take part say they will read more regularly.
We have a limited number of places to take part in the project free of charge and receive our resource pack as well as free training. These are available to primary schools and public libraries that meet our criteria (including high uptake of free school meals and low attainment at Level 4 in Key Stage 2. If you do not meet our criteria, you can buy the pack, while stocks last, for £290 (providing enough materials for 32 pupils). Find out more here.
