The Times Education Supplement reports that the Early Years Foundation Stage review may result in 100 assessment criteria being dropped

24 Mar 2011

The Times Education Supplement reports that the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) review, led by Dame Clare Tickell, the Chief Executive of Action for Children, may suggest reducing the criteria against which children are assessed from the current number of 117 to as few as 17.

Additionally, literacy may be separated from the “communication, language and literacy” learning area to address fears that children may be introduced to reading and writing too early.

The article also states that it is unlikely the EYFS will be dropped entirely due to the widespread support within the sector for a single assessment framework. The review is not yet complete but will be going to ministers by the end of spring, with any changes coming into effect in September 2012.

The full article can be read on the Times Education Supplement website.
