A Norwich pre-school and a childminder in Sandwell win awards from the National Literacy Trust
13 Dec 2010
Magdalen Gates Pre-School in Norwich has been named as the National Literacy Trust’s ‘Early Reading Connects Setting of the Year 2010’ for their ongoing commitment to motivating local children and families love language, stories and reading.
Debbie Raheem, an individual childminder in Sandwell, has been named as the runner up in the competition. Debbie ensures all the children and families she works with enjoy reading, so the children can develop the literacy skills they need for a successful, happy and fulfilling life.
Rebecca Green, Project Manager, Early Reading Connects says:
“We have a network of over 3,500 early years settings, from childminders to children’s centres all across the UK. We received many inspiring entries into the competition but both Magdalen Gates Pre-School and Debbie Raheem were just exceptional, and are worthy winners.
As part of the governments’ Early Years Foundation Stage curriculum and requirements, early years settings are required to develop children’s literacy skills. Early Reading Connects is a supportive network which shares learning and inspirational ideas with other practitioners.”
Magdalen Gates Preschool win £300 to spend on literacy materials.
