World Book Day reaches out to teens with JLS poster boy
5 Nov 2010
Teenagers are to be the prime target for next year’s World Book Day (WBD) with initiatives including a poster campaign featuring JLS member Ortise Williams and a free interactive story widget from HarperCollins.
WBD will take place on 3rd March. More than 13 million £1 tokens will be distributed to schoolchildren.
JLS boyband member Ortise Williams will front a poster campaign for secondary schoolchildren in which he will share his reading secrets and favourite books.
HarperCollins has created a free story widget for teens to download and receive instalments of a story written by Louise Rennison. Readers can customise characters, share images and talk about the story through Facebook
As previously reported, Galaxy is providing £300,000 for promoting the 10 Quick Reads titles. For the second year running the “Let Me Tell You a Story” portal will display short films of WBD authors reading from their £1 books.
Work by authors including Philip Reeve, Betty G Birney and A A Milne will be used in the £1 WBD flipbooks.
Rachel Russell, chair of WBD 2011, said: “Once again WBD is hugely grateful to the publishers and authors who support the day, create wonderful standalone titles, plan and take part in vibrant events and champion books and reading. We are looking forward to the week-long celebrations, which will reach all ages, and are proud to launch a pioneering initiative for teens.”
