Quangos to be cut or reviewed

192 tax-payer funded quangos are to be abolished, with power given over to local people of the services that matter to them. Announcements have caused controversy, with thousands of jobs due to be lost. However, the Coalition Government stress that quangos – which cost an estimated £65 billion a year – should be able to justify their existence and cost to the public.
Amongst those to be abolished are:
Advisory Council on Libraries
General Social Care Council
General Teaching Council for England
Independent Advisory Group on Teenage Pregnancy
Museums, Libraries and Archives Council
Amongst those still under review:
Children's Workforce Development Council
Community Development Foundation
Homes and Community Agency
National College for Leadership of Schools and Children's Services
Partnership for Schools
The Office of the Children's Commissioner
Young People's Learning Agency
To be retained:
Big Lottery Fund
