National Literacy Trust event at Labour Party Conference
22 Sep 2010
The National Literacy Trust in association with Starbucks will be hosting a fringe event, with complimentary coffee and cakes, at the Labour Party Conference on 28 September.
The “Rising to the Literacy Challenge: Building a bright future for Britain” event will bring together high-profile thought leaders from Parliament, the third sector, think tanks and the media for an opportunity to discuss the future of literacy in the UK with an audience of educationalists, political minds and members of the public.
George Dugdale, Policy Adviser at the National Literacy Trust says; “With new leadership and a new policy direction, the Labour Party is entering a fascinating new era. Our fringe event will bring together key thinkers from inside the party to discuss how we can meet the UK's literacy challenge."
The debate panel includes:
Lyn Brown MP, Chair of the All Party Parliamentary Group on Literacy
Lord Jim Knight, Former Minister of State for Schools
Kevin Courtney, Deputy Head of the NUT
Jonathan Douglas, Director, National Literacy Trust
Starbucks have kindly agreed to host the event at one of their stores near the conference as a sign of their commitment to improving literacy.
