Leap of Faith

Early Years Magazine reports on a new project that brings creative play into early years settings. Dynamic New Animation (DNA), a puppetry and visual theatre company, has devised ‘Imaginary Leaps’, a company supporting and developing creative play techniques. The article quotes Adam Bennett, a founding member of the company and puppeteer who said: ‘playing doesn’t come naturally to every parent’. The sessions can help to improve children’s speaking, listening and emotional wellbeing.
Imaginary Leaps uses three areas of focus to implement its creative play sessions; events in theatres, libraries and other settings, integrated play sessions at early years sessions, and training for practitioners.
Early Years Magazine also gives some other creative play examples that parents can use at home, including dressing up clothes, water and sand, and clothes-horses, fabric and boxes for children to create their own den or play area.
