Young people at Rosedale College perform at their best for Words for Work
25 Mar 2010
The following email was sent by the teacher who attended the Words for Work drama session at Rosedale College on Friday 19 March.
"I wanted to tell you how impressed I was with the standard of work that was being delivered, and the behaviour and engagement of our students.
The team were enthusiastic throughout and provided our Year 9’s with an engaging range of drama activities to elicit important literacy skills. I was really impressed with the planning that had gone into this and found that I was taught some new drama ideas for literacy as well!
However, it was our students that most impressed me; particularly as some of the group was made up of students who have shown challenging behaviour during the school year and a disengagement with education. From the most able to the least able of the group, all were engaged throughout.
They were keen to take part in group discussions, questions and answers as well as the drama. They wanted to take part, but they also wanted to do well and have their work selected to be shown to the rest of the group. It showed these students at their best and I think it's wonderful that this programme was made available to them, to enable them to do this. One particularly disengaged student, for example, even stayed to the end of the workshop so that he could speak with Sally about what the next session was about and ask if he could have copies of the photographs. He was obviously proud of the work he had done, but pleased that other people were taking an interest in his work as well.
It was a delight to be able to see the students engaged and enthusiastic about their learning."
