NLT announces two new evaluation studies

15 Mar 2010

The National Literacy Trust (NLT) believes that society will only be fair when everyone has the literacy skills they need. Local authorities, and their multi-agency partners, are a crucial part of making this vision a reality.

As part of the evaluation of the 2008 National Year of Reading ERS were commissioned by the National Year of Reading team, on behalf of the Department for Children, Schools and Families, to conduct a review of cross-authority partnerships implemented at a local level as part of the campaign.

The Executive Summary and full report, explore how well services were integrated locally and makes recommendations for how a multi-agency approach to reading could be advanced (both nationally and locally).

Following the 2008 National Year of Reading, and as part of the legacy from the campaign, the National Literacy Trust launched Partners in Literacy (PiL), formerly Family Reading Matters. This pilot project is working in partnership with over twenty local authorities to develop a flexible, and strategic, multi-agency approach to literacy. The project funds a Strategic Coordinator in nine local authorities and offers free support to a wider network of unfunded “partner” authorities.

The following Executive Summary comes from a mid-point evaluation of this two year pilot which was carried out by National Foundation for Educational Research (NFER).
